The Meeting is pleased to present its first summer group exhibition opening on July 6 through August 31st, 2024. The exhibition brings together five artists working across a range of media. Participating artists include Patrick Carroll, Samuel Farrier, Benjamin Langford, Lise Soskolne and Philip Van Aver, organized by Bill Cournoyer.
The works in the exhibition share an interest in borrowing from nature, found or sourced objects, art history, literature, and erotica. The flower motif is a visual link and craft is an underlying element of most of the works involving their production.
The title of the exhibition is borrowed from the avant-garde film The Flower Thief, 1960 directed by Ron Rice and featuring Taylor Mead. I was introduced to the film by Philip Van Aver in a conversation during a studio visit at his home in the East Village.
